Video streaming technology provider upLynk Wednesday said it has signed Disney/ABC Television as its first customer for its live linear streaming service, adding that Disney already has deployed its software to manage encoding and delivery of content for web, mobile and tablet streaming for the WATCH Disney apps: WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney Junior and WATCH Disney XD.
upLynk’s live linear streaming service gives content owners the opportunity to easily create a linear feed for viewers to access online, emulating their TV experience, complete with dynamic ad insertion and content replacement. Content is available to authenticated subscribers. The service enables operators to quickly launch live channels and integrates with existing playout automation systems to enable content and ad replacement, respecting all rules and rights restrictions set forth by the operator. upLynk integrates with third party ad servers to insert ads on the fly, providing each user with unique, targeted ads during a linear broadcast. Additionally, closed captioning works the same across all platforms.
upLynk’s technology uses a single adaptive video format across all devices, removing the duplicate costs of encoding, storage, playback, ad insertion and analytics. The company’s pricing for live and on-demand content is based on hours encoded, stored and streamed.
