Cord-cutting is only attractive if there’s lots of quality content and it’s not expensive. Both of those factors could be going away soon–or at lease be substantially diminished–according to Darren Feher, CEO of Conviva, who expects that higher fees and less content will become the norm as the online video space finds its footing.

UpLynk came out of stealth mode in January, showing off its simplified HD adaptive streaming service, as well as its big partner: Disney/ABC.
THX has been quietly developing patents and buying technology. Recently it bought a color-management technology called Cinespace, [and] also forged a partnership with a startup called eyeIO – the technology that powers Netflix’s instant streaming service – which could lead to THX’s involvement in high-quality streaming video feeds.
Rather than requiring partners to build, store and stream a wide range of adaptive bit range streams for each type of supported device, upLynk’s system lets them create one version that can be stored centrally.
upLynk, which provides a single HD adaptive streaming format, has extended its technology solution to also incorporate native video ad insertion. By integrating the ads with the content this way, upLynk is able to deliver a single continuous adaptive stream to the player.
upLynk, a relatively new company in this space [has] deep roots in the industry. It has been in stealth mode for almost two years, and the founding team is amongst the few who have been working on Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) technologies from the start.
