So, today’s BIg Rumor is that CBS is threatening to take its ball and go home, pull the plug on its over the air signal and go the cable route, a la Fox.
Well, there are a lot of words that could describe how likely either of those two companies are to put themselves behind a paywall, but the first that comes to mind is “bunk.”
It’s amazing that the two networks are publicly playing a game of chicken with their respective audiences after an appeals court decided to let Barry Diller’s Aereo–the start up that rents tiny antennas to consumers and then streams OTA content to customers–continue to operate.
It’s a game with no winners. Not the networks, not the content owners, and certainly not advertisers or consumers.
Call it saber rattling. Call it gamesmanship. Or, call it just silly.
It certainly make over the top far more appealing.
