This morning Verizon announced an agreement to acquire privately held CDN provider EdgeCast Networks in a deal that is expected to close early next year.
After a weekend of rumors, Verizon announced Monday morning that it plans to acquire Edgecast, one of the few outwardly profitable content delivery networks. While no price was given, TechCrunch estimates that the acquisition could cost Verizon more than $350 million.
Verizon Communications Inc. agreed to buy Web startup EdgeCast Networks for an undisclosed sum, continuing a string of recent moves aimed at shoring up the telecommunications giant’s foothold in the market for new Internet technologies.
